Why do fans love Eric Idle so much? Why do they swoon at the sound of his voice? Why do they throw themselves at him and grovel at his feet? Why do they squee whenever they see a new picture? Who knows?! That's why this page was created- to become a compilation of Eric Idle fanatics expressing why they are so devoted to this man. And don't worry- you can add to the list as many times as you want! To contribute, just e-mail me your list of reasons starting with the next number on the list! There is also a similar thread that can be found on the Forum.
We Love Eric Idle Because Of....
1. His blue eyes.
2. His voice when he speaks.
3. His long hair. (Very pretty color too: honey-like.)
4. His voice when he SINGS!!! It was watching him sing Always Look On The Bright Side of Life that hooked me onto him, haha.
5. Whenever he plays the guitar- I'm trying to learn the guitar myself, and I've always admired people who can play it, and when HE plays it... *flop*
6. How freaking funny he is. The man couldn't be more hilarious if he tried. He would be a joy to know in person, because his sense of humor is #1. His comedy can always bring a smile to my face, even on my darkest of days- and to me, that means A LOT.
7. The way he can memorize pages of words and spout them out like nothing with that captivating speaking voice (Mr. Smoketoomuch...).
8. The way he's always cracking up during really funny bits.
9. It is so funny how he bites his sidel in the Burning The Witch scene in Holy Grail to keep himself from cracking up. Love that bit, love it!
10. The whole "But, but I have had tea- lots and lots of tea!" scene in the Rutles is just sooo hilarious! (For me, it would be coffee though, not tea, lol. Or Dr. Pepper!)
11. Eric's nose. It isn't exactly tiny, but I have a big nose myself, so yeah... nice big nose, bignose! (j/k)
12. His sense of humor and sharp wit.
13. His way with words that shows through the sketches he wrote (i.e. Nudge Nudge).
14. His hands!
15. His smile... *sigh*
16. His facial expressions!!!
17. His clothes- he's so nicely dressed. He just goes for comfy casual, and I like that.
18. His guitar. Hey- I LOVE guitars!!! (Side Note: Slighty related to #5. #5 was for the fact that he can play one, and whenever he does. #18 is for the fact that he owns one- lol.)
19. His British accent... *swoons*
20. His ability to be sexy even though he's 61!
21. His friendliness. He seems like he'd be such a great person to know.
22. His hand gestures. When he talks, they're always flying all over the place and making the story/conversation much more interesting. (I use tons of hand gestures too, so if we ever got together we better sit a few feet apart or we might smack each other in the face!)
23. His voice tones. Again, when he talks, he isn't monotonuous. He does silly voices and makes it higher and lower and just really makes listening to him enjoyable. It's good rules of conversation.
24. The fact that he's written novels *swoon*
25. On "Live at Drury Lane" during the travel agent sketch when he says "And you can't even get Watney's Red Barrel 'cause you're still in England and the pub closes everytime you're thirsty." LOL... so true!
26. He was the voice of Rincewind on the discworld games, which I used to play before I was a fan of his, so they're very good in their own right!
27. See numbers 1-26!
28. He's going on TOUR! And I have 4th row tickets!
29. I love the lovely blond curly locks. I'm a stickler for curls....
30. How about the fact that he writes the journal? WHOA. I mean... WHOA. It's fascinating to the extreme. You could have not a clue in the world as to who he is and still find it interesting. Personally, I love the journal, and it was a damn good thing he decided to write it!!! KEEP GOING ERIC!!!!
31. And how about how he is so polite and kind? Sure, he admits that he has his grumpy days- BUT WHO DOESN'T? I mean, come on, like Janet said, what other actor would go on a tour all around North America to please Python-starved fans and then do autographing for at least an hour afterwards? Huh HUH?
32. His ability to call his wife his 'Beloved' after so many years of marriage (I would sooo love to have someone as crazy for his spouse like Eric).
33. His loving commitment to his family.
34. His graceful aging (He sure doesn't look 61 to me).
35. His ability to sing songs that are completely silly and still keep a straight face.
36. (Ok and maybe this one is just me because I have a weird taste in men, but) The way he looks in a dress. I mean, he makes a very pretty woman. (lol) (<---That'd be Frick!)
37. His openness about his past (well, some people wouldn't want to admit that they woke up on a beach next to a girl whose name they can't remember (tsk, tsk, tsk)
38. He really seems to love his daughter Lily quite a lot... you can see it in the various photos and in the interviews he's given. You can tell he's a great dad. A gorgeous, wickedly funny, talented, gorgeous.... er.... sorry... a great dad.... yeah. :)
39. The fact that he can write twenty brilliant songs in a day, and still have time for all that tea!
40. His cute, mischievious smile.
41. The fact that he says he was "a bit of a shagnasty" as a young man. That's what I like to hear!
42. His incredible long legs. Seriously, check out the live version of the camp judges.
43. The way his Northern accent comes through every now and then when he talks. SO CUTE!
44. When he swears! You can't deny how cute it is when he swears! Well, it might only be a personal thing... Eric's swearing might annoy a lot of you... but not me!
45. The way you can actually admit you love a 63 year-old man! I mean, a lot of people probably would never admit that they think that a 62 year old is cute, but for some reason Eric is an exception.
46. The fact that his voice makes him sound so young.
47. The fact that he is fluent in three foreign languages - Latin, German and French. (Has everyone heard him SING in French? *sighs!*)
48. The way that every single hairstyle he has had has matched him wonderfully!
49. His eyebrows are a wonderful shape, and he has that little mole under his left eye.
50. He is one of the few men who can actually pull off stockings and a garter belt (Example: Live At The Hollywood Bowl).
51. His timeless face. Back in the Flying Circus days he looked youthful, but mature. You couldn't tell if he was 17 or 37!
52. He can play any part and pull off anything.
53. His round mouth.
54. His kindness and generosity towards animals.
55. The fact that he doesn't go mental from us lunatic fans chasing him all
the time.
56. He can be so naughty but still can write a children's book.
57. How he can make a Scotsman or an evil ghost-nabber look like the god of
beauty.
58. His Australian impersonations! God, I love the Bruces...
59. He can make innocent far-too-young 12-year-old girls who were introduced to Monty Python fall in love with him. I can never fully love anyone else now...
60. His eyes somehow make you think that you know him... Those baby blues
made me dream about him last night... What a nice dream!
61. He can make me roll up my sleeves at my best friends when they insult
him. Well, they don't know him so I guess their lack of intelligence
in world-class talent is to blame. But still, one more insult and it's to
Mars you go!
62. All the different accents he can do. I especially love it when he does a Scottish accent.
63. When Michael Aspel interviewed him and said, "You're no stranger to women's clothes are you?", Eric replied with, "I've been trying to get into them for years." That made me laugh so much!
64. He was Sir Robin!
65. The scene in Holy Grail where Eric is guarding the room. I love the expression on his face in the close-up!
